Introducing the Bracco Italiano Owners Guide and Puppy Pack

Supporting better understanding, better ownership and a stronger future for the breed

At the Bracco Italiano Club, we are committed not only to celebrating this remarkable breed, but to safeguarding its future.

That future doesn’t sit solely in the show ring or the field.
It lives in homes, families and everyday partnerships between owners and their dogs.

With that in mind, we are pleased to introduce our new Bracco Italiano Owners Guide and Puppy Pack, a practical, honest and supportive guide designed to help owners from the very beginning of their journey.

Why We Created It

The Bracco Italiano is a unique breed.

Shaped over centuries as a working gundog, it brings with it a set of instincts, behaviours and characteristics that are deeply rewarding, but at times can also be challenging, particularly for those experiencing the breed for the first time.

Today, the majority of Bracchi will live as companions rather than working dogs. And while their environment may have changed, their instincts have not.

We regularly hear from owners who are:

  • Struggling with lead work and pulling
  • Finding recall more difficult than expected
  • Unsure how to manage strong scenting and ranging behaviours
  • Looking for reassurance that what they are experiencing is “normal”

At the same time, we see the incredible potential of the breed when those same traits are understood and channelled in the right way.

The Puppy Pack has been created to bridge that gap.

What the Puppy Pack Covers

This is not a generic guide.

It is specifically written for the Bracco Italiano, reflecting the real experiences of owners, breeders and those actively involved in the breed.

It includes:

Understanding the Breed

Clear, accessible insight into the Bracco’s heritage, temperament and natural instincts, helping owners understand the why behind behaviour.

Early Foundations

Guidance on socialisation, routines and the importance of calm, consistent structure in the early weeks.

Training & Behaviour

Practical advice on some of the most common challenges:

  • Lead walking
  • Recall
  • Managing prey drive and scenting behaviour

All approached with realism, patience and encouragement.

Health Awareness

Information on key areas such as:

Alongside encouragement to seek informed veterinary advice where needed.

Activities & Fulfilment

An introduction to the many ways owners can enjoy life with their Bracco, including working, showing, and a wide range of dog sports and enrichment activities.

Competition & Breed Preservation

A balanced overview of showing, working tests and field trials — not as expectations, but as opportunities to understand and appreciate the breed more deeply.

More Than Information-Reassurance

One of the most important aspects of the Puppy Pack is reassurance.

Owning a Bracco Italiano can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel demanding at times.

This pack aims to normalise those experiences, without dismissing them.
To offer guidance without judgement.
And to remind owners that support is available.

Online communities can be helpful, but not all advice is equal.
Our aim is to provide a trusted, considered starting point grounded in experience and knowledge of the breed.

Supporting Responsible Breeding and Ownership

The Puppy Pack also plays an important role in encouraging transparency and shared responsibility.

By providing clear, honest information about the breed, we hope to:

  • Support breeders in preparing new owners
  • Help owners make informed decisions
  • Strengthen long-term outcomes for dogs and families

Better understanding leads to better ownership, and ultimately, a healthier, more secure future for the Bracco Italiano.

We encourage all new and existing owners to explore it, refer back to it and share it where helpful. Thank you and any questions, or comments, please do let us know.
