Bracco Italiano Health Foundation Genome Study
The Bracco Italiano Club has been approached by the Bracco Health Foundation in USA to find people whose dogs have problems with kidney issues and would be willing to participate in a study at no cost to themselves at all and in confidence.
information will be strictly restricted to owners and the University Bracco Health study team.
The Bracco Italiano Health Foundation is currently seeking Bracchi that have been diagnosed with kidney problems to participate in our ongoing genome study.
By analysing genetic data from affected dogs we hope to better understand these hereditary health conditions and work toward improving the future health of the Bracco Italiano.
The BIHF has partnered with Dr. Tracy Smith at the University of Maryland one of the leading canine geneticists in the USA to conduct a comprehensive genome study on the Bracco Italiano (we can provide additional information that explains how this study will be approached scientifically as explained by Dr. Smith).
Our goal is to better understand the genetic markers behind hereditary health conditions. To make participation as seamless as possible for UK owners, the BIHF is fully funding the testing process (which consists of saliva swabs), providing free DNA Kits, we are providing Embark DNA kits (which retail for $199 USD / £149) completely free of charge to qualifying participants (results will be completely confidential between owner and Dr. Smith).
Covered Shipping: The BIHF will fully reimburse all shipping costs required to send the samples back to the USA.
We are specifically looking to connect with UK owners of Bracchi who have been diagnosed with confirmed renal amyloidosis.
A strong clinical diagnosis of familial proteinuric nephropathy (kidney damage causing high levels of protein to leak into the urine).
We would be incredibly grateful if you could share this initiative with anyone you might know to have experienced this condition in their Bracco Italiano to take part in this groundbreaking research.
Thank you so much for your time, dedication to the breed, and consideration of this partnership. We look forward to working together to protect the future health of the Bracco Italiano.
